Week 2 SEC Headliners

Written by Dalton Cohea in September 7. 2022

13-1, thanks to LSU, is a pretty solid week 1 record for a conference. Highlighted by Florida knocking off No. 7 Utah in the swamp, Arkansas getting a top 25 W against Cincinnati, and Georgia letting the country know they were not a one and done. With that being said, let's take a look at the SEC headliners for week 2.

Week two brings two SEC matchups to the table. Let's start off with the top 20 matchup, No. 20 Kentucky traveling to now No. 12 Florida. Anthony Richardson accounted for 4 touchdowns last week, 3 being on the ground, against Utah. This performance proved that the Heisman potential is there for Anthony Richardson, and this week he is in luck. Miami, Ohio ran for 121 yards against Kentucky last week, and the Gators will look to go for even more. Although Will Levis threw for 300 yards last week, he will not have that same success in Gainsville. Look for this to be a ground game by both teams, especially the quarterbacks.

Next up, South Carolina travels to Fayetteville to take on No. 16 Arkansas. South Carolina is coming off a flakey, 3 touchdown victory over Georgia State. Spencer Rattler threw 2 interceptions, South Carolina scored via a blocked punt, and at one point trailed the game 14-12 in the third quarter. Arkansas on the other hand, is coming off a 7 point victory over No. 23 Cincinnati. Cincinnati missed a couple of field goals, and turned the ball over twice, once being on the Arkansas 20 yard line. Despite this line being Arkansas -8.5, do not give up on Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks just yet.

Tennessee rolled over Ball State last Thursday by a score of 59-10. Tennessee did not have to do anything special to go 1-0, but that is not the case if they plan to go 2-0. The No. 24 Volunteers will hit the road in week 2 and take on No. 17 Pittsburgh. Pitt is feeling good from beating their rival, West Virginia, thanks to a late pick six. Kedon Slovis threw for 300 yards Thursday, so the Volunteers will need to apply some pressure to collapse Slovis' pocket Saturday. Pittsburg gave up nearly 200 rushing yards in week one. The Volunteers will plan to win the trenches and control the ground game. Once they establish the run that will open up the air a little more for Hendon Hooker, plan on the Vols being 2-0.

Last Saturday, Bryce Young accounted for 6 touchdowns and 295 yards, in about 2 quarters. Now, Utah State is nothing to write home about, but Alabama was definitely firing on all cylinders. Texas won by 42 in week 1, against a bad UL-Monroe football team. Is it shocking that Alabama is a 20.5 point favorite traveling to Texas? Maybe so, but Bryce Young is not scared to win another Heisman, and Will Anderson believes he is owed a trip to the Heisman ceremony. Plan for these two superstars to really fill the stat sheet Saturday. Luckily for Texas this ball game is at 11:00am CST, which gives them plenty of time to lick their wounds the rest of the day. The Tide will definitely Roll in Texas.
